Volume here is self-reported

The volume column is what each venue reports to CoinGecko, not an independently measured figure. The trust score exists precisely because reported volume and real volume are not always the same thing — open an exchange's own page to see its normalised volume, which discounts the claim against order book depth.

What the trust score measures

CoinGecko's trust score is an attempt to answer a hard question: how much of an exchange's reported volume is real? It blends order book depth at various price levels, the spread between bid and ask, web traffic relative to claimed volume, and whether the venue holds recognised licences or publishes proof of reserves.

A score of 10 does not certify an exchange as safe, and a low score does not prove wrongdoing. It is a liquidity and transparency signal, not an audit. Custody risk, withdrawal policy and jurisdiction are separate questions that no single number captures.

Practical use: if two venues list the same pair, the higher-trust one will usually give you a tighter spread and a fill closer to the quoted price. For anything you intend to hold long-term, self-custody remains the relevant consideration regardless of which exchange you buy on.
